Singapore Bar Method

Your child may have told you about how they used the Singapore Bar Method to help them solve a maths problem recently.

This is a great pictorial strategy to help them organise their thoughts in order to solve word problems.  It can be used in any area of maths and teaches children to draw a bar to help them understand the steps needed to solve some very complex questions.  These questions may involve addition, subtraction, fractions, percentages, to name but a few!

We are delighted that our children have taken to this method brilliantly and are beginning to use it competently.  We have produced a short video, which can also be found in the 'Curriculum' section of our website, which explains how we use it here at Alderwood.

We hope you find it useful!
